The paintings shown on the following pages represent a sample of a body of work that covers the10 year period before 1999.
During most of that period my work has orientated toward exploring the structural concepts of form and color. Using the defined positive space of the pieces and the applied color and shadow effects, the picture plain tended to become ambiguous. I have now moved back to the more painterly flat surface, but still work the field so that the shapes move more freely within the designated space. My referential imagery now has begun to move back toward a period of earlier work that creates a more organic feeling, in contrast to the strictly linear and monochromatic pieces that I have been involved with more recently. This seems to be a natural circle as I incorporate the linear quality of the constructions into the more painterly pieces that I am now doing. The sample of work shown here reflects these changes. |
